New Tequila & Taco Bar, Agave Shore, Opens on Welton

Kwon Atlas

Opening this month, Agave Shore comes to Welton Street (in the Five Points Plaza) offering a vacation in the city. Agave Shore is the newest concept from hospitality veterans, LeJon Vivens, Chuck Jones, & Latasha Eugene. They have done restaurant and bar concepts all over Colorado but they have come to Five Points already making a huge wave. On the 7th of May and as part of our Five Points First Fridays, Agave Shores hosted the community for a one-of-a-kind Cinco de Mayo and Jazz Celebration as a soft opening. It was a teaser of what was to come from the newest edition to the Five Points Plaza business hub. There was tequila and tacos, live music and lots of community. Agave Shore is a modern upscale tequila bar with amazing street tacos. The emphasis is definitely on the tequila as they will host 40 different tequilas and 10 specialty tacos. Agave Shore will create instagrammable moments with their island décor and unique homages to Mexican culture. While tequila is the focus, the tacos might be some of the best in the city. The name Agave Shore speaks to two important elements the partnership group wants as their first impression. 1st being “Agave”, a commitment to hosting a variety of tequila brands and quality cocktails and “Shore” a commitment to create a casual getaway vibe.

Of course, one important fact about Agave is that it is black-owned and operated. The partnership is 100% black-owned and co-owner LeJon Vivens grew up in the Five Points area. Vivens began his work experience washing dishes at Zona’s Cafeteria and is excited to return to Five Points with his own restaurant right behind Welton Street Café. Vivens describes this experience as an honor as he believes Welton Street Café is the crown jewel of Five Points and the most important business on the Welton Street Corridor. Him and his partners know that “Welton Street is the anchor tenant and the biggest draw to the area”,  a fact that made this opportunity more viable.

Having over 25 years of success in this industry, the partnership group hopes to inspire the youth in the community to achieve great heights and believe in themselves. They want them to see “What people can achieve who apply themselves” and know that these achievements are not just “for others but it can be you”, said Jones. Vivens grew up in a different Five Points to what it is here today. He saw friends fall victim to gun violence and families experiencing extreme poverty. It's this experience that has inspired this group to be a part of the renaissance happening in Five Points now and to invest in the success of Welton Street. They are excited about the change back towards more minority and women ownership and they are eager to bring more activation and excitement to Five Points.
