Munchies’ Justin Murchison’s first published book draws crowds at the Clayton Club

Justin Murchison who is best known for being a part of the Munchies and Mimosa Party promotion group recently released his first book Love is Love and drew a large crowd for the book signing at the Clayton Club.

“Love Is Love provides an authentic look into the healing process associated with mental health, a beacon for individuals resistant to addressing internal issues and trauma. This raw form of emotional expression serves to allow them to relate organically and create enough of a safe space to release those emotions.”

Murchison noticed that as he kept trying to elevate in different areas of his life, there were many layers that he hadn’t matured as much as he had assumed, traumas that he never gave himself a chance to heal from. He realized he needed to forgive himself for some of the “bull**** in order to overcome [his] own adversity.”

"I spent so many years perfecting the ability to internalize, taking pride in my inability to express emotion. I had to rid myself of the thought that expressing pain and emotion was a weakness. My ego was my crutch, diluting self-awareness, never allowing myself to really connect with others or have the feelings of a human being.

I was so caught up in what a Black man should be & how I’m “suppose” to function. Never noticed the level of my disassociation to emotion until I couldn’t feel anything in the moments that were meant to be some of my most fulfilling.

Every aspect of my life was numb, it was time to heal. I didn’t decide to write a book. I decided to journal and acknowledge what was going on with me, and unlearn the toxic traits holding me back from my potential Turns out, alone in my thinking and I no longer had to feel and believe that I was. May my own journey towards better mental health be exactly what you need to find the courage to start your own."
