Regina Jackson and Saira Rao, the creators of Race2Dinner, a controversial project that invites white women to dinner to talk about race and their own racism, are set to release a New York Times bestseller and a documentary about Race2Dinner this month. Race2dinner has stirred up controversy after the trailer for their upcoming documentary “Deconstructing Karen” was released. Jackson and Rao are seen asking white women tough questions about race, like “Are you a racist?”. These questions visibly make the dinner participants uncomfortable, even sad, but this is the expected and intended response as Rao and Jackson seek to challenge and change “8 white women” at a time with their work.

Their mission: Initiating radically honest conversations that enable each of us to acknowledge, understand, and take personal responsibility for stopping the harm done to ourselves — and to each other. Conversations that acknowledge how we are complicit in creating, enabling, and engaging in oppression. Conversations that can lead to liberation for all of us. In a white supremacy culture, those conversations necessarily center on the dismantling of whiteness and white supremacy.

The book White Women, much like the Race2dinner, specifically challenges white women to learn about the ways they weaponize their whiteness and contribute to white supremacy and racism every day, and the documentary “Deconstructing Karen” depicts one of their Race2dinner dinner parties both are available this month. White Women is available for order now, and “Deconstructing Karen” will be available after November 24th.

Regina Jackson is an African American Denver-area real estate broker, and Saira Rao is an Indian American media professional and former congressional candidate for Denver, Colorado.
