Redbud Garden Center is Bringing the Beauty of Plants to the Whittier & Five Points Neighborhoods

The intersection of Tremont Place and North Downing Street is the home to one of the Five Points neighborhood’s newest local businesses. Redbud Garden Center opened its doors the first week of December 2021 after just nine days of set-up.

Redbud is the passion project of co-owners and partners Tim Meany and Patrick Gonzalez. By day, Tim owns a local landscape business he has run for the last 36 years while Patrick works in software. Tim recalled driving by the lot that would later become the home to Redbud, thinking that the space would be perfect for a garden center. “I felt like the neighborhood was in need of a plant store,” said Tim, so he worked to create it. His goal is to transition to running the garden center full time to continue to invest in what he is truly passionate about.

Redbud has quickly become Five Point’s one-stop-shop for all things succulents, foliage, and garden supplies. After just six months in business, 97% of the clientele is made up of members of the neighborhood, proving Tim was right that the community was lacking a local plant store. “Geraniums will do best this time of year and we have a huge selection of perennials” said Tim. With his background in landscaping, Tim is a wealth of knowledge on what varieties to invest in as Spring turns to Summer.

As you approach the center, you are greeted with a mural running the length of the building painted by Phoenix-based muralist Mac Schneider. The mural represents Mac’s first Denver piece, adding an extra special touch and personality to the outside of the space. Next to the mural, the Redbud signage showcases the center’s logo adorned with the succulents and foliage that can be found just inside the doors. Tim and Patrick kept it local when designing the signs looking to Denver-based street artist Randy Segura of Art Hotspot.

The art on the outside of the building is a perfect representation of what is happening inside. As the sun shines through the large entryway, Tim is working tirelessly to ensure that every customer who walks through the door is given his undivided attention and expertise. “Sometimes I see customers in the grocery store, and they recognize me from the garden center” Tim said when discussing the community impact he has seen since their doors opened. A great representation of the heart of the Five Points and Whittier neighborhoods.

Since opening their doors, Redbud has hosted several events including Terrarium workshops and themed sales. Follow @redbudgarden center on Instagram to stay up to date on upcoming events and announcements.
