Thanksgiving Feed-A-Family returns to its roots

LaSheita Sayer

This Thanksgiving the Denver Feed-A-Family organizers, have a goal to feed 7,500 families along the front range. Like many organizations COVID and now supply chain issues are changing the way things get done. The legendary community event, organized by the Epworth foundation, encountered challenges in acquiring Turkeys it normally uses to include in their Thanksgiving Baskets. Despite those challenges, their plan to feed thousands is now two-fold. Instead of Thanksgiving meal baskets they are now plan to serve approximately 500 meals on Thanksgiving Day and over 7,500 gift cards will be distributed to families in need. The gift cards will be handed out on November 13th, a few weeks ahead of the holiday so that a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal can be purchased from a grocery store and prepared at home, together with their family.

“This year’s supply chain challenges have affected the availability and cost of food. We continue to find a way to honor the generous legacy of “Daddy Bruce” Randolph. Says Epworth Foundation Elder King Harris, this year our commitment to his legacy is no different. We will still feed thousands all that has changed is our delivery.

The gift cards will be distributed on Saturday, November 13th and the cooked meals well be served on Thursday, November 25th at Epworth Church in north east Denver.

The Foundation, in partnership with local food agencies, has identified thousands of households that need food assistance this year. Families in need can also be referred by other members of the community on the Epworth foundation web page.
