L’École, Denver’s home for French Language Immersive Education
L’École de Denver, a private French immersion academy, has been teaching and maintaining the language of French Denverites for the last few years right here in the Five Points area. L’École has quickly become a home away from home for many immigrants from French-speaking countries but also those who want to get their young kids started with a language at a young age.

Black Fantasy Ball: Celebrating Lgbtqia+ Ballroom Culture In Colorado
Black Pride Colorado ‘s ‘Black Fantasy Ball ' hosted its annual celebration of ball culture that honors the LGBTQIA+ community on Saturday, October, 1.
The ‘Black Fantasy Ball - P-Valley Edition’ held a series of competitions for queer and trans folks of color who displayed flamboyant underground dance style and culture.
This year, the late-night event was led by the Colorado Chapter of the nationally renowned Royal House of LaBeija. and Lee Lee James (she/her), aka LeeLee LaBeija, is the ‘mother’.
Wakanda on Welton
November 10-16th, The Five Points BID will be bringing a Wakanda Experience to Welton Street in celebration of the upcoming release of Black Panther 2, on November 11th. The first Black Panther was a blockbuster Marvel movie that proudly celebrated African-American and African culture and traditions, and greatly promoted Hip-hop, Afrobeats, and African music, as well as the principle of global African diaspora unity. The Five Points Business Improvement District seeks “to bring this celebration” to Five Points, specifically Welton street, given its own historic significance in African-American history.
The Denver Black Reparations Council announces Inaugral Grant
The Denver Black Reparations Council, in partnership with Reparations Circle Denver and The Denver Foundation, is excited to announce our inaugural reparative grant-making cycle. Reparative grants totaling $50,000 will be awarded to Black-led nonprofit organizations located in Colorado.
State Lawmakers From Across the Country Visit Denver Nonprofit
Warren Village, a Denver-based organization focused on helping low-income, single-parent families make the journey from poverty to self-sufficiency, hosted approximately 50 state legislators and legislative staff from across the country on September 14.

QueenShipp Summer Program empowers youth
The QueenShipp Empowerment Summer Program prides itself on providing a form of community and fun to children from various backgrounds. The camp takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays over the summer period and helps children develop skills and build relationships with one another. The program provides a fun, safe space for the kids to play, create and learn.
Underdog celebrates two years of giving back
Two years ago, we highlighted The Underdog Family, a nonprofit organization born during the height of pandemic-related shutdowns to support local businesses with a digital presence. Their mission: to even the playing field for Woman-owned and BIPOC-owned businesses who have disproportionate access to funding and technical resources – to root for the underdog. Yet today, as we circle back two years later, we can't help but notice the organization itself epitomizes defying the odds.

Juneteenth Music Festival Announces an enhanced Two-Day Street Festival Featuring Headlines Dave East and Twista for the 2022 Celebration
Denver’s Juneteenth Music Festival, one of the largest and longest running in the nation, returns on June 18th and 19th with its annual parade and street festival featuring hundreds of vendors, concerts, delicious ethnic food and this year’s headliners Dave East and Twista. Last June, 2021 Congress passed a bill making Juneteenth a Federal Holiday, a milestone JMF Corporation, producers of the Juneteenth Music Festival, had been working towards for over a decade. The state of Colorado has been home to this Juneteenth Music Celebration for over five decades and earlier this month, officially signed a bill making Juneteenth a state holiday and ushering in one of Juneteenth Music Festival’s biggest seasons yet.
Soul Street on Clarkson set to open this month
With support of the City, the Five Points Business Improvement District has created Soul Street on Clarkson, a new outdoor dining area for the businesses in the Five Points Plaza. Behind the plaza on the closed Clarkson street is a new, lush and colorful hang out area where you can enjoy your food and drinks from 715, Agave Shore, Spangalang, Mimosas, Duke’s and more.
New Denver Program Aims to Increase Home Ownership among Communities of Color
Denver’s Department of Housing Stability (HOST) is proud to offer a new housing program that aims to increase homeownership in communities of color that were historically targeted by discriminatory practices like redlining. The metroDPA Social Equity program provides down payment assistance of either $15,000 or $25,000 to qualifying households.
Denver Housing Authority Hires Erin Clark as New Chief Real Estate Investment Officer
Denver Housing Authority (DHA) has hired Erin Clark as the chief real estate investment officer. Clark brings with her more than 15 years of experience, and joins DHA from her most recent position as vice president of master site development with Urban Land Conservancy (ULC) based in Denver. Clark officially started on April 18, 2022.
DSST Cole Presents their 5th “ColeChella”
Our 5th annual Cole-Chella festival features music and art from the talented DSST Cole Middle and High School students. We are happy to welcome our family, friends, and the Cole-Whittier-Five Points community to celebrate the closing of another successful school year. This month, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver) announced that applications are now being accepted for the first-ever Creators Studio paid internship program for creative young Denverites ages 18-26.
Mexican Cultural Center and Denver Museum of Nature & Science Host Ninth Annual Día Del Niño Celebration May 1
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is partnering with the Mexican Cultural Center to host the ninth annual Día del Niño SCFD Community Free Day on May 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year, the Museum will also host a virtual event with budding anthropologist Anirudh Rao on April 18.
The First Open Hand Pilot Proves Successful
The Open Hand Initiative has successfully completed their first small pilot. They were able to open the door to homeownership for 5 families with just $5,000 per applicant, using a $25,000 grant from the Metropolitan Diversity & Economic Equity Partners. The applicants that received the grant had varying levels of income and their initial credit scores ranged from 590’s - 610. The project's goal was increasing their scores to 620 and above where they could qualify for mortgage loans and other homeownership programs.

Cleo Parker Robinson Dance receive $4M in funding from the state of Colorado
This month, the State of Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) announced $4 million in revitalization funding for a large facility expansion at the historic headquarters facility of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance (CPRD) at 119 Park Avenue West in Denver’s Five Points.
