Rose: Colorado Access limitations create Mental Health Redlining

Andrew Rose is concerned that Colorado Access limits access to counseling by not allowing pre-licensure counseling outside of large centers like MHCD. Pre-licensure counselors are university interns and early career therapists who need thousands of hours of supervised work to attain a license. They are eager, energetic, willing to learn, and successful at treating clients, according to research. Smaller clinics where one supervisor could take on a few interns or supervise some pre-licensure therapists would open up job opportunities and more access.

‘It’s Not Just About Living and Surviving. It’s Living With Abundance’: CAA Health Virtual Summit Wraps Up Black History Month

Hundreds participated in The Center for African American Health’s first virtual Collaborative Black Health Summit the last weekend of February. The event drew a diverse crowd: community members and policy advocates, health care workers, elected and appointed officials. Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock delivered opening remarks, highlighting CAA Health’s longtime role in combating health disparities “in a system that has undervalued and dehumanized African Americans.” He promoted accurate COVID-19 vaccine information-sharing and access.

Black Women Philanthropists group, The LINKS, makes historic donation to the Center of African-American Health

In recognition of Women’s History month and International Women’s Day, the Denver (CO) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, made ‘herstory’ with its largest donation to date - a $100,000 gift to the Center for African American Health’s (CAA Health) capital campaign. The investment represents a collective giving model, which is fueled by a long-standing tradition in the African American community that has historically and culturally played an important role in reinforcing the financial stability and sustainability of Black institutions.
