Denver removes requirement of providing proof of legal residency
In compliance with a new state law, as of July 1, the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses no longer requires proof of legal U.S. residency to apply for a business or occupational license in the City and County of Denver. In addition to lifting this requirement, Denver also added additional forms of identification that will be accepted. A full list of acceptable forms of identification for business and occupational licenses can be found here.

27th Street Storm Interceptor Project Phase 3 Construction Update

Empower Northeast Denver Initiative Makes the Ballot to Protect the Voice of NE Park Hill
Last month, the Denver County Clerk announced that the community led Empower Northeast Denver campaign had enough valid signatures to make the November Denver ballot. The measure is a direct response to an initiative filed by SOS Denver to take away the voice of an entire neighborhood that has been systematically disenfranchised for more than 50 years. If the Empower Northeast Denver initiative passes, the current conservation easement on the Park Hill Golf Course property will remain in place. The City and the community will continue to work together to develop a plan that benefits the surrounding neighborhood, and the voices of Northeast Park Hill will lead this process.
Mayor Hancock Nominates Phil Washington as CEO of Denver International Airport
Mayor Michael B. Hancock recently nominated Phil Washington to be the next CEO of Denver International Airport (DEN). Pending City Council approval, Washington will take over from current CEO Kim Day, who will be retiring after 13 years leading the airport. Washington most recently led Los Angeles County’s regional transportation authority and before that he headed up metro Denver’s Regional Transportation District.
Local activist joins Tigrayan diaspora to end humanitarian crisis in homeland
In protest of the war, members of the Tigrayan diaspora united in Denver last month for a weekend of coordinated action. Led by Tigray Community Colorado, a community-based non-profit, people marched from Zeckendorf Plaza Park to the State Capitol building the morning of June 11th, a sea of red and yellow demonstrating the presence of Tegarus. The following day, activists formed a caravan of vehicles from South Broadway to Axum Park, where about 500 people rallied with Tigrayan and USA flags and signs. On the 13th, individuals paid $10 at an Aurora event to bash cars donated by a local junkyard. According to organizers, the event served dual aims of relieving stress and raising relief funds.
City of Denver Survey Shows 4 in 5 Residents Want a Mix of Uses on Park Hill Golf Course
Recently released preliminary results from a survey conducted by the City of Denver on the Park Hill Golf Course in Northeast Park Hill revealed that 4 in 5 Denver residents want a mix of uses on the property. The top things that people wanted to see in their community included a grocery store (85% of local residents named this as a top 3 priority), affordable housing (67% of respondents) and a park with athletic fields (73% of local residents named this as a top 3 priority).
