New Five Points Non-profit, The Underdog Family, gives free tech support and more to local Businesses

Since that day in June, The Underdog Family has grown rapidly from merely an idea in an apartment complex off 26th and Welton, to an absolute force of a business development machine for our local businesses. With the leadership of TUF’s two other board members, Derrick Knudsen and Darian Nocera, the Underdog Family has grown to eight businesses, 17 operational leads, and a volunteer network of 117. Their mission is to cultivate a stronger community by highlighting the gems within it, which is accomplished by collaborating with mission driven businesses who believe our community is stronger when every member has an equal opportunity to succeed.

On March 25th SUCH will perform for the first concert of the Rossonian Presents: Concerts on the Point series, a tiny desk-esque concert in the Five Points. The concert will take place at the MBP restaurant and will be tapped live for fans to watch later in high definition.

Black in the West: Robert Gray, An Art Curator

Robert “Rob” Gray, art curator and founder of the Black Love Mural Festival, wants to “Rob the art museum”. Of course not in a literal way, his mission as an art curator is to “inspire, engage, and educate the Black community through art”. He believes that traditional art culture is exclusive and lacks access for people of color. The moniker, “Rob the art museum”, comes from his fantasy of stealing popular art and showing it to his community in a robinhood fashion.

Brien Hollowell is a Colorado born African-American photographer currently exhibiting in Five Points. His newest exhibit captures landmarks and meaningful places in Denver and the 2020 George Floyd Protest, all in black-and-white to convey his artistic endeavor to create a memoir. This story is the first Five Points Atlas edition of Black in the West.
