Fixins Soul Kitchen coming to Five Points
Fixins Soul Kitchen, the full-service soul food restaurant celebrating African American culture and traditions, is proud to announce its forthcoming location in Denver, set to open in early 2024. The new restaurant will join California restaurants in Sacramento's Oak Park and Downtown Los Angeles, as well as the recently opened Tulsa, Oklahoma location, which opened in May. Denver marks the second location outside of California as Fixins continues its national expansion across the United States.
Fixins Denver will be located in The Hooper, a mixed-use development located at 26th and Welton, and a shining example of the revitalization occurring in the historic Five Points neighborhood, one of Denver's oldest and most diverse neighborhoods. The restaurant's interior will pay homage to the neighborhood's jazz roots with various artwork and design details and will feature 6,500 square feet of space with indoor/outdoor seating for 190.
Fixins was founded in 2019 by former NBA All-Star and Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson
"KJ" and his wife Michelle, combining his love of Black culture with her obsession with great food. The restaurant pays homage to the soul food KJ grew up with and includes family favorite, made-from-scratch dishes like the signature chicken and waffles, oxtails, shrimp & grits, deep-fried deviled eggs, and Grandma Gladys' famous peach cobbler. Diners can choose from a selection of "fixins" to accompany their entree - collard greens, mac-and-cheese. candied yams. black-eyed peas, red beans-and-rice, and grits. Drink options offer a variety of Kool-Aid flavors, sweet tea, cocktails such as "Adult Kool-Aid" and Bourbons from Uncles Nearest, a former slave and the first African-American master distiller in the US, widely considered to be the godfather of Tennessee whiskey.
Denver hosted a ceremony with Owner Kevin Johnson, where he was joined by Mayor Michael Hancock, former Mayor Wellington Webb, and a few guests from the Denver business community. "We are excited to continue our national expansion and bring Fixins Soul Kitchen to Denver," said Kevin Johnson. "I know that the Five Points community is the perfect area to showcase our authentic soul food, and together, we will make beautiful music!"
